Sumy State University took the second place in top-10 Ukrainian higher education institutions, which entered the World ecological ranking UI GreenMetric. In a general ranking, SumDU took the 208th place (last year result – 216) among 780 education institutions (in 2018 – 719), from 85 world countries (2018 – 81).

Sumy State University was evaluated in more than 40 criterias on issues of energy efficiency, reactions to climate changes, waste utilization, implementation of ecological measures and sustainable development issues into educational programmes, etc.

According to the results of 2019, SumDU was highly evaluated in the most influential (21% of general mark) category – energy efficiency, reactions to climate changes, waste utilization, and level of ecological research and its reflection on education.

The GreenMetric ranking is developed by Indonesian University, that enters the top list of higher education institutions according to QS company.

The aim of the ranking is to involve universities to the solution of issues of sustainable development through implementing relevant events in scientific, educational and industrial activities.

On September 11th at the World Academic summit in Zurich the Times Higher Education ranking agency (THE) presented the results of its flagman ranking THE World University Rankings of 2020. The ranking evaluates specifically research-intensive universities and considered to be one of the most established rankings in the world next to the Shanghai Ranking and QS Ranking.

Sumy State University entered this prestigious ranking for the first time. SumDU managed to clear the electoral barrier by a number of established scientific publications for the last 5 years and to demonstrate competitive results by the index of research activity, that takes up about 75% of the ranking methodology. THE counts research chops of HEIs in Scopus database, results of scientific community survey regarding the quality of scientific activity in other universities, financial indicators of research providing etc.

The authenticity of the ranking methodology and calculations has been proved by one of the most established audit companies in the world PricewaterhouseCoopers. According to reports, this year SumDU got the 1st place in Ukraine and entered the TOP-300 of the world HEIs, according to the other ranking by Timed Higher Education – University Impact Rankings, that evaluates so called “third mission” of the universities – the level of its social and economic influence.


Times Higher Education company that publishes not only rankings of higher educational institutions in general, but also rankings on certain areas of knowledge, published its updated version of the THE University Rankings in Engineering and Technology.

This year Sumy State University entered this ranking at the position of 801+.

The ranking evaluates the quality of research and educational activity through publishing activity and citation of research papers in the branch, surveys of field experts, commercialization of the corresponding research developments etc. The main fields of knowledge in the research were Electronics and Electrotechnics, Mechanics, Chemical, Civil and General engineering.

It should be pointed out, that SumDU was included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of the world research universities this September.

A grant of the President of Ukraine for scientific researches for 2019 year is appointed Doctor of Economic Sciences, Head of Department of Economic Cybernetics of Sumy State University Olga Kuzmenko. Corresponding decree of the President of Ukraine signed August 6.

Olga Kuzmenko received financial support for the implementation of the scientific project “Development of prototype of the automated module of financial monitoring of economic agents for counteracting the legalization of criminal proceeds”.
